Why did you start to do Pilates?
Ever since I stopped doing ballet at age 16 I have tried many different "movement systems": aerobics, squash, cycling, fitness, powerplate... you name it! After being inactive for the better part of a year I read an article about Pilates in a magazine. In 2007 I'll be doing Pilates for 3 years.
How did you hear about the Pilates Works studio?
I read an article about them in a magazine.
Do you remember what your first impressions of a Pilates class were?
I was hooked from the get go. It was reassuring that working on my abdominals was a weekly fixture again... whether you're slim or not, that's always the first part of your body that starts to sag or show the pounds you have put on.
What kind of effect do the Pilates exercises have on you?
I've noticed that I've become more aware of how I use my abdominals in my daily life. If you use them more consciously every kind of movement just is... easier. I'm hoping that through my pilates classes I'll be able to maintain this kind of flexiblity even as I start to age.
What is your favourite exercise (and why)?
Rolling like a ball, the Seal en the Open leg rocker because they're always challenging. Sometimes I pull them off, other times not but I am getting better every time!
How many times per week do you work out?
At least 1 time a week, sometimes 2 although I tend to skip a few classes if work gets hectic.
Do you do Pilates at home every now and then?
Rarely, but I do use a few of the Pilates stretches after I have been jogging.
